Anula Maiberg's Mythbusting Your Pilates Practice

Anula Maiberg was born in Israel and moved to NYC in 2001 in order to pursue a career in photography. While working on her degree at the School of Visual Arts she fell in love with Pilates through the classes and private sessions she took around the city. After receiving her Masters in Fine Art from the Royal College in London and a few years at a "desk" job she realized happiness wasn't in front of the computer screen. She decided to attended the Kane School for Core Integration (Kinected) to become a fully certified teacher graduated in 2009. After several years teaching she was accepted into the Kathy Grant Heritage Training Masers Program led by Cara Reeser of Pilates Aligned in Denver and graduated in 2014. Anula is passionate about upholding the traditions and principles of Pilates while being able to update and personalize them for the needs of her students. She also feels strongly about volunteering her time to the LGBTQ community and believes Pilates is a wonderful movement modality and a tool for healing in a supportive environment.

Anula's Mythbusting Your Pilates Practice workshop will cover some common misconceptions encountered in Pilates. First and foremost, the feeling of not being good enough at certain exercises. She will cover some simple ways to change the language we use to discuss our bodies and make room for ourselves to feel more successful.

Pilates Day Mat Class

Pilates Day is an annual, international, community event celebrated on the first Saturday of May every year. The Pilates Day mission is to foster the public’s appreciation and awareness of the Pilates Method through a network of varied, innovative, and high quality grassroots Pilates events accessible and affordable for all.

Pure Body Studio invites you to celebrate Pilates Day with a FREE community mat class. We'll be taking you through the traditional Mat Pilates Flow which includes transitions between each exercise to keep you moving (and shaking!) from start to finish. Join us as we tone, sculpt, strengthen and stretch in honor of Pilates Day 2017!

Blossom Leilani Crawford

Blossom Leilani Crawford is the owner and director of Bridge Pilates in Brooklyn, New York. She is known for her playful and powerful teaching methods, which she developed during the seventeen years she worked with Pilates Elder Kathleen Stanford Grant. Since then, Blossom has made it her mission to expose each one of her students to the joy and satisfaction that comes from intelligent exercise.

Before the Hundreds  1-4pm
Blossom assisted Kathy Grant's matwork class at NYU for 10 years. In that class, Kathy developed a vocabulary of warm-up exercises that came before starting the traditional Pilates matwork. Before the Hundreds are the building blocks to doing the traditional Pilates vocabulary. This is the heart of Kathy's work. The exercises have a huge stylistic range, but can be easily assimilated into your teaching. Before the Hundreds includes warm up movements that will mobilize, deeply strengthen your abdominals and enhance your body awareness. After this workshop, you will have a new tool kit to get in tune with your body.


Kathy Grant's Cats and Beyond 4-7pm
Kathy loved cats and loved the way they moved. They inspired her to make up many different exercises based on their movements. You'll learn all of Kathy's "cats" and how Kathy used them within the traditional Pilates framework.
You'll discover that the principles, imagery and skills of the cats can transfer to other Pilates exercises both on and off the equipment. Kathy Grant’s cats are a wonderful way to warm up a group of students and stretch without tension.

Wunda Chair Wonders $275 12-5pm
In this Wunda Chair workshop, Blossom will lead an exploration of the traditional exercises of the Wunda Chair. This is not a workshop of dazzling new choreography or tricks, but, rather, a look at the classical movements of the Wunda Chair stripped of flourishes to highlight its simple yet challenging movements. She will share some simple variations to the traditional Wunda Chair exercises that will assist in flexion, extension and rotation of the spine without adding dozens of new exercises. Blossom will gently (and not so gently) remind instructors of exercises that are completely accessible, but sometimes left off.

Saturday, November 5th 1-6pm: Pilates Made Simple: The Cadillac $300  

These workshops are designed to help professionals make common sense of the complexities of the Pilates method. Spiked with historical background information on the origin of the exercise repertoire as well as the design of the apparatus, these sessions are guaranteed to bring new life to the everyday work of Pilates teachers. The Cadillac is without a doubt the most versatile piece of apparatus in the Pilates studio. Exploring its intended dimensions, properties, and amenities, this five hour workshop is designed to reveal how the repertoire performed on the Cadillac can play to our creativity, support our client’s greatest weaknesses AND unfold their greatest strengths! (5 PMA CEC's)

This 3-hour session continues the exploration of the Cadillac and pays special attention to exercise repertoire that is less familiar to the modern Pilates student—including historical accessories and the use of the space above and outside the Cadillac. (3 PMA CEC’s)

Day 1 - Pilates & Scoliosis
Scoliosis is a sideways curvature of the spine that occurs most often during a growth spurt, before the onset of puberty. It affects one in ten people in the United States. This hands-on workshop will benefit our clients by enhancing our skills specific to Pilates and Scoliosis.

Day 2 morning - The Gentry Work
This segment explores Eve Gentry’s pre-Pilates exercises along with Michele Larsson’s Pilates Solutions. Eve brilliantly trained her clients to be bio-mechanically efficient, allowing them to move without pain, eventually performing a full Pilates workout. We will discover how the Gentry technique can help our clients learn the Pilates method and help us problem-solve and individualize our own lessons. We're looking forward to expanding our understanding of the Pilates method by learning how to identify problems, weaknesses and imbalances, and developing solutions that will allow us to provide the best possible Pilates experience.

Day 2 afternoon - Pilates & Active Aging
In order to develop methods to teach our older clientele, we need to understand the changes that occur during the aging process. This class looks at the age-related changes in our body, thoughts, emotions, and spirit. Physical fitness improves the performance of every organ, including the brain, and therefore our mental alertness and emotional state. However, what qualifies as appropriate activity in our 20s may not be appropriate in our 50s. By understanding these physical, emotional and spiritual changes, we can better respond to the needs of our clients.

Summer is coming to an end, and the fun of transitioning our little guys into any kind of schedule or routine is beginning. Join Emily on August 12that 1:30pm for a 90 minute workshop focused on mindful fitness through Pilates and creativity. Too Cool for School will help kids de-stress and prepare for the busy year ahead, while rebuilding functional movement patterns and increasing confidence.

450 Hour Pilates Teacher Training Program

 
This program is broken down into eight 18 hour modules.
 
This module consists of Pre-Pilates, breathing, topical anatomy, Pilates history and the beginner mat Pilates exercises.
A second mat Pilates module covers the remaining intermediate and advanced exercises and takes place September 23 - 25th.
